Yarn and thread

Cotton
Cotton yarns are available in a range of qualities and thicknesses. The thinner the yarn, the higher the yarn count; for example, 80/2, 100/2 etc. Fabrics produced from single-thread yarns in both warp and weft are called single cloth, or singles. Fabrics produced from double-twist yarns in both warp and weft are known as twofold.

Linen
Linen thread is made from the flax plant. It is a strong, smooth fibre, which get softer by time and wash. Owing to its minimal elasticity, the fabric wrinkles easily. A linen shirt is light and airy to wear, ideal for summer.

Silk
Mulberry silk comes from the Bombyx Mori silkworm. The silkworm spins a cocoon, which may produce 500-800 metres of fine, elastic silk thread. The thickness and weight of the finished fabric depends on how many threads are spun together, but characteristics in common are its lustre and drape.
