Jackets & Blazers

A good men's blazer or men’s jacket should offer a great fit and be timeless, high quality and easy to dress up or down. Blazers, overshirts and shackets are versatile pieces of outerwear that add a touch of elegance to both casual and formal occasions.

At Stenströms, our range of outerwear varies according to the season. During autumn and winter, we offer a hand-picked selection of jackets and vests to keep you warm and stylish. And in spring and summer, our range includes lighter outerwear such as shackets, overshirts, stylish casual jackets and blazers in wool, linen and cotton.

From day to night

Knitted jackets are the perfect way to add a warm, soft and stylish layer to your outfit. Knitted jackets can be worn at work when the dress code is business casual, along with a shirt, preferably with a cutaway or button-down collar, or even a polo shirt. They work just as well for informal evening events, with a smart shirt and tie, bow tie or scarf.

Can you wear a suit jacket instead of a suit?

It depends on whether a dress code is specified. If it says lounge suit, you need to wear a black, navy or charcoal suit. For less formal occasions such as going to the office, you can wear separates like a blazer and trousers in coordinating colours.

When should you wear a shacket?

Shackets are a kind of hybrid between a shirt and a jacket, and are often lined and have jacket pockets. You can wear one as a light jacket, with a knitted jumper or polo underneath, but they can also be paired with a shirt and tie for a slightly more formal look. Stenströms’ shackets have large and distinctive flap pockets that echo the look of a jacket, combined with a collar and tailored details, just like a shirt. Pair them with one of our knitted jumpers.

When should you wear an overshirt?

Overshirts have become very popular in recent years, probably because of their versatility and their stylish yet modern feel. An overshirt is a somewhat thicker shirt, with details such as flap pockets, and sometimes a drawstring at the bottom. You can wear one as a casual jacket instead of a blazer, both indoors and outdoors. For a chic look, wear a thinner shirt with a tie underneath, or wear the overshirt unbuttoned over a t-shirt or polo shirt.

What is the difference between a blazer and a suit jacket?

There is no real difference, they basically mean the same thing. Generally speaking, suit jacket refers to what you wear with a pair of matching suit trousers, as part of a full suit, and blazer refers to what you wear with non-matching trousers such as chinos or jeans.

When should you wear a blazer?

A blazer can be styled in many different ways. It fits the usual dress code for work – business casual. Wearing a dark blue blazer with jeans, or a dark brown blazer with light coloured chinos is seen to be classic and chic. The knitted blazer is a mix of a cardigan and a classic blazer, giving you the best of both worlds: a warm and cosy piece with the stylish cut of a blazer.

How to choose the right suit jacket

Choose a suit jacket that suits your style. For spring and summer, we like shackets, which offer unbeatable style and versatility, and just the right amount of warmth. We have shackets and overshirts in durable and natural materials such as linen, cotton and nylon. You can wear a shacket with a lightweight shirt, a polo shirt or a simple t-shirt underneath.

Find the right jacket for the right event

Our shackets in linen, cotton, nylon and wool are the most versatile jackets for spring and summer. A shacket, as the name suggests, is a cross between a shirt and a jacket. Dress it up with a lightweight shirt and a tie or bow tie underneath, or keep things casual by wearing it unbuttoned with a t-shirt or polo shirt underneath. For slightly more formal occasions, a wool blazer may also be a good choice, while for outdoor activities our leisure jacket is perhaps the best choice.

How should a jacket fit?

Think about whether you want to use the jacket as a mid-layer, or if it will be the outer layer. As a mid-layer, jackets work best if they fit slightly closer to the body, without feeling too tight. If the jacket is going to be used as outerwear, it’s a good idea to go for a larger size than you normally wear.
