Superslim – A close fitting and figure-hugging model.

Slimline – Our most popular model – a slim-fit shirt that offers a good range of movement.

Fitted Body – Also known as regular fit. This shirt offers more freedom of movement thanks to the two pleats at the back.

How to wear an Oxford shirt?

The Oxford shirt is a real chameleon – a master at adapting to any occasion. Paired with chinos, it has a preppy, relaxed and casual vibe. If you are going for a more formal look, the Oxford shirt can be worn with a suit jacket and tie. If you’re new to Oxford shirts, start your collection with a classic blue or white shirt that will work in every situation.

What is a button-down shirt?

Button down means that the shirt collar has small buttons that hold the collar points in place. The shirt is sporty and relaxed rather than formal, making it a firm favourite in our casual shirt collection. Try a button-down shirt under a sweater for a modern and stylish look.

Can you wear a men's shirt without a tie?

A tie is a nice touch, and either a bow tie or tie is a must for formal dress codes. If you are going for a casual look, there is no need to wear a tie, and a shirt such as an Oxford shirt can be worn with the top button left undone. A scarf can be a chic alternative if you prefer not to wear a tie.

Should you tuck in your shirt?

Generally speaking, yes, men's shirts should always be tucked in. However, some shorter, more casual shirts, like denim shirts or some linen shirts, can be worn without being tucked into trousers. Consider the overall look, which should be relaxed yet stylish. As a rule of thumb, an untucked shirt should end midway down the length of your trouser fly – any longer and it needs tucking in.

Stenströms materials

First of all, let's talk about the difference between materials and fabrics. When we talk about twill, twofold stretch, oxford, denim and jersey, we are talking about different types of fabrics, not materials. When we talk about materials, we mean things like cotton and linen. Both are natural materials and the most exclusive and comfortable choice because they are breathable and feel good against the skin. Most of Stenströms’ shirts are made from 100% finest Egyptian cotton, which is a sustainable, durable and soft material.

Which style of shirt collar should I choose?

Find the right shirt collar to suit your features and style. We have a wide range of collars to choose from, with more than 20 different models in our range. See our collar guide to help you find the right one for you.

What should I wear with a shirt?

Men's shirts are a wardrobe staple and so versatile you can wear them for most occasions, dressed up or down depending on what you pair them with. For a formal look, wear a shirt with a suit and jacket, and a tie or bow tie. For a more casual vibe, layer a shirt under a knitted jumper with chinos and jeans.

How should my shirt fit?

The most popular and common fit for men's shirts is slimline. Men's shirts should be comfortable and not feel tight anywhere. The shoulder seam should lie at the point where your shoulder ends and your arm begins. The cuff should end at your wrist, but if you are also wearing a suit jacket, the cuff of the shirt should extend about 1–2 cm. You should be able to fit two fingers inside the collar when it is buttoned, and the shirt should not be too tight across the chest causing the buttons to pull. To find the right shirt for you, use a tape measure and consult our size and fit guide

What is the best way to wash shirts?

Follow the washing instructions on the label. Use a mild laundry detergent, and select your washing machine’s delicate cycle, or the shirt programme if there is one, and a low spin cycle. Then place the shirt on a hanger, fasten all the buttons and let it air dry.

What should I wear to work?

Check if your office has a dress code, and if it does, follow it. If not, something like an Oxford shirt is a safe choice when you want to be smart but not overdressed. Oxford shirts often have a classic button-down collar or a bold cutaway collar, both of which are great for the office. For a more casual look, try our washed cotton, denim, flannel or linen shirts.

What type of shirt do you wear with suits?

If you're wearing a slim fit suit, it's a good idea to choose a slim fit shirt or choose a regular fit with a more casual suit. A classic white shirt is a safe bet that goes with everything. A light blue or light purple shirt is a good choice for blue suits. Green and brown shirts go well with grey suits, and you can wear any shirt colour with black suits.

Which colour shirts match my suit?

For more formal events, you are expected to wear a black, navy or charcoal suit and white dress shirt. However, for business casual or smart casual events, the colour of the shirt is optional, and you could, for example, coordinate your shirt with a bow tie or tie and pocket square. See our guide for more tips and advice on dress codes.

Shirts in summer

We love wearing a summery short-sleeved men's linen shirt over our swim shorts on the way to the beach, or a relaxed, patterned shirt for a casual barbecue at a neighbour's house. Our range includes shirts in one colour or patterned shirts in various materials so you can be sure to find something that suits your style. For maximum coolness, roll up the sleeves twice for a chic 50s look. Don't forget to take a look at our polo shirts and t-shirts

Can you wear a tie with a short-sleeved shirt?

Possibly, if you are a pilot or if you are forced to by your dress code at work. If neither of those apply, we really think the answer is no. If you need to dress formally in the warmer months, just tough it out with a long-sleeved shirt.
