3 key garment care products
We recommend investing in three key items which will form the basis of your garment care: a good quality liquid detergent, a wool comb for all your wool garments and a clothes brush.
How do you wash shirts at home?
Have you ever considered that not all detergents are the same? We have. High-quality clothes deserve a high-quality liquid detergent. This will help you to prolong the life of your garments by taking good care of them in the best possible way. Stenströms’ detergent is specially formulated to strengthen and preserve the texture of microfibres. This helps colours retain their clarity, and your clothes stay soft.
How do you wash a shirt?
Use Stenströms’ liquid detergent or a delicate detergent for your Stenströms’ shirts and select the shirt programme on the washing machine if one is available, otherwise select the delicate cycle at 40 degrees. Set the machine to the lowest possible speed for the spin cycle or skip it altogether. Take the shirt out of the machine, hang it on a hanger, fasten the buttons and let it air dry.
How do you use cedar wood products?
At Stenströms, we have cedar wood balls and cedar wood rings. Spread them around your wardrobe to keep out pests like carpet beetles, silverfish and moths. Don't allow cedar wood balls to come into direct contact with light-coloured textiles as they may stain the textiles slightly. The rings are handy to hang on your hangers. Once the wood starts to lose its scent, you can revive it by sanding the surface with sandpaper.
Why use cedar wood in your wardrobe?
Cedar wood balls are an essential part of every man's garment care since they have a dual function – they add a pleasant wood scent to your wardrobe and also keep insects away from your favourite clothes. Stenströms has cedar wood balls and cedar wood rings, which you can either place around your wardrobe or hang on your hangers. Don’t allow cedar wood products to come into direct contact with light-coloured textiles. Their scent will diminish over time. When this happens, lightly sand the wood with fine sandpaper to make the wood look and smell new again.
How do you remove bobbles from a wool jumper?
It is a common misconception that only poorer quality garments develop pilling. However, it’s perfectly natural for a cashmere, wool or other knitted material to bobble, as it happens through friction when two surfaces rub against each other. It's very easy to remove bobbles with our wool comb, which is a gentler alternative to an electric bobble remover. Lay the garment on a flat surface and gently comb in one direction over the affected area. Don't use the comb on loose knit or more delicate materials as they can get damaged by the comb.
Clothes brush or roller?
To get rid of dust, hair and anything else that might get stuck on your clothes, real gentlemen use a cedar clothes brush instead of a clothes roller. This is because the sticky surface of a roller can damage your clothes and, in the worst case, leave your clothes sticky so they attract even more dirt. A brush gently cleans your clothes and is a stylish addition to your garment care routine.
How should you store your clothes?
Invest in a wardrobe with plenty of space, so you can fold, sort and hang your clothes neatly. Trousers should be hung on hangers or trouser racks with the creases facing outwards. Suits that are not in use should be hung in garment bags – these are also handy for when you want to travel in style. Hang shirts on a hanger or fold them neatly. Knitted garments should always be folded and never hung, as they risk getting stretched and losing their shape. If you need to store your clothes between seasons, for example in your loft, use sealed plastic boxes with lids and add cedar balls for a forever fresh look.
How to remove yellow spots under arms
There are a number of home remedies that work on stains. Spray the stain with vinegar and then wash with a bleach-free detergent. You can also try mixing washing-up liquid with citric acid to make a paste that you apply to the stain and leave for about 30 minutes. Then rinse and wash as usual with a liquid detergent.
